About
the ASEAN Business Summit
From January 11 to 13, 2007, the leaders of 10 ASEAN member-countries
and their dialogue partners will meet in Cebu City, Philippines,
for the annual ASEAN Business Summit. Now in its 12th year,
the Summit aims to address economic and cultural development
issues in the region by bringing together the heads of state
and foreign ministers of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia,
Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand
and Vietnam in a formal, roundtable meeting.
Aside
from internal meetings, the ASEAN Business Summit will also
serve as a venue for multilateral, inter-region dialogues
between ASEAN member-countries and dialogue partners from
other Asian regions and the rest of the world, namely China,
Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia,
Canada, the European Union, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Papua
New Guinea, East Timor and the United States.
In the
course of the three-day Summit, extensive coverage by local
and international media outfits is anticipated, and is expected
to be sustained in subsequent weeks.
