Global Steel Philippines: Certified dependable supplier of quality steel for local and export market

Local and international clients attest to Global Steel’s product excellence

(Manila, Philippines, October 30, 2006) — After more than a year and a half of operations, Global Steel Philippines (SPV-AMC), Inc. (GSPI) executives have reported increased customer confidence in their products. The steel firm currently exports to Asean, the EU and U.S., and is finalizing plans to offer a new range of products.

“We are encouraged by very positive feedback from our local and international customers. This validates our quality production standards and our position as a market leader,” said Bhim Sen Mohnani, GSPI president. “Along with enhancing productivity and ensuring quality, we are now focusing on expanding our product offerings.”

Mohnani said representatives from major Korean steel firms Dongbu Steel and Union Steel, who visited Global Steel’s Iligan plant recently, have expressed satisfaction with Global Steel’s exports to Korea. Both Korean companies are now set to forge long-term business relationships with GSPI.

Customers in China have likewise expressed confidence in Global Steel products, according to Mohnani. “We hereby welcome Global Steel in our endeavor to supply quality products to our customers. We are confident that our partnership will go a long way,” said executives of China-based Ningbo Foreign Trade Co., Ltd, in a recent statement. NFTC has trading ties with 112 countries and regions throughout the world and annual imports and exports worth more than US$1 billion.

Another China company, the Shanghai Huaye Iron & Steel Group Co., Ltd., (SHISGC) also imports Global Steel projects. The Group’s business model includes steel processing, retailing, and distribution and logistics. It ranks 165th among the top 500 enterprises in China, and 7th among privately-owned enterprises.

“We are satisfied with the systems and procedures Global Steel has set up and adopted, which all ensure the timely supply of quality products. We look forward to a long business association with Global Steel and invite the company and its technical team to visit our facilities for further discussions as our regular supplier,” said SHISGC ‘s Jerry Zhang.

Local steel firms such as Steelcorp, Sonic Steel, AC Steel, Galvaphil, Group Steel, Mayer Steel, Goodyear Steel Pipes, Marketing Proponents, Power Construction, Topmark and Accutech have likewise expressed satisfaction with GSPI’s products.

“Even as our list of satisfied customers continue to grow here and abroad, Global Steel remains committed to exert all efforts to improve the quality of its existing products and to move up the steel value chain by developing products for high-end applications such as automobile, shipbuilding and electronics in the immediate future,” Mohnani said. “Our ability to compete in the global steel market is essential especially in the light of alarming reports of unabated smuggling and the deluge of cheap steel imports that continue to harm the local steel industry as a whole,” he said.

“While the years 2005 and 2006 have been challenging to Philippine businesses,” Sangram Mohanty, GSPI head of corporate communications said, “We expect economic prospects for 2007 and beyond to be quite upbeat. This is mainly due to a more stable political landscape and a much better investment climate which will naturally lead to more robust construction activities and demand for various construction-related materials including steel.”

Global Steel is a subsidiary of Global Steel Holdings Limited (GSHL), which acquired the former National Steel Corporation in 2004. The acquisition provided the global group a production platform for Southeast Asian markets.
