Gender biases exist in our communities, including spaces we believe should be safe for each individual. Women, in particular, are those who struggle to move forward chained to the old standards society has built. But we are starting to take responsibility for the old notions and reconstruct the norms to incorporate gender inclusivity in the workplace. Women are now unleashing their potential as champions and leaders of the new world.

Inclusivity, diversity, and an empowered workplace have always been part of TeamAsia’s mission to empower communities. This Women’s Month, we continue the mission to safeguard gender inclusivity in the workplace by reaching out and keeping the conversation open. Managers from this women-led company shared empowering statements and promising insights about gender inclusivity. As an intern experiencing a professional working environment for the first time, I am inspired by their collaborative environment with empowered leaders guiding the teams.

“A woman of today is strong because she is self-secure, she has compassion and she has [the] grit to prove something great” – Joyce Alonzo, Account Planner

The dynamic of the team is exceptional in creating gender inclusivity in the workplace

In TeamAsia, gender inclusivity in the workplace is practiced. Everyone is open, welcoming, and appreciative of one another.  Just enter one meeting, and you’d immediately agree with how diverse the team is. As someone who recently joined the discussion, I am amazed, and excited even to see how the team exchanged, innovated, and challenged each other’s ideas. By consolidating the team’s perspective, every person and every idea is well represented.

“One great thing about TeamAsia is that it’s a place of synergy and collaboration, despite the colorful mix of people in it”. – Marsha Alba, Senior Events Manager

In TeamAsia, gender biases and barriers do not exist.

They take on “feminine” projects with a good mix of both men and women, breaking the norm that a project is gender-specific. The team goes through it collaboratively without any bias, having in mind that ”ideas matter more than positions”, and people’s worth is not based on anything besides their merits or capability to deliver next-level performance.

As TeamAsia promotes gender inclusivity in the workplace, we need a safe and open space for every person in the room. We have to uplift one another, making sure that we do our part and that our efforts for pushing equality in the workplace are felt by everyone.

“It starts with you – it’s realizing that a culture of equality means that you have to make an effort to make an equal workplace – you have personal responsibility for making sure that biases don’t creep in”. – Andrei Carada, Senior Copywriter

Gender inclusivity and empowerment are very evident in TeamAsia’s culture.

These values are why they can build meaningful connections and deliver exceptional solutions. Additionally, a study claimed that when women are part of the table, communication flows smoothly. That is because women ensure that everyone is involved in the conversation. Our managing director, Bea Lim, continues to empower us to make our voices heard and not be afraid to take the lead. In places where women are heard and valued, it is not only the women but the entire team who thrives.

“If you don’t have a seat at the table, bring your own chair”. – Shirley Chisholm

The leaders made sure that each individual thrived together with the company.

Now it’s safe to say that the people of TeamAsia are a reflection of how the president and managing director, meaningfully and positively influenced TeamAsia. The mother and daughter tandem always check up on their people and make sure their doors are always open, ensuring that their people are heard and their concerns are addressed through employee engagement activities such as weekly pop-ups.

They also make sure that at TeamAsia, their people thrive by being open to continuously learning to have an empowering environment. Learning things such as accepting differences, and still keeping your individuality, as mentioned by one manager. We have to celebrate the women in the company, we have to know what a woman’s worth truly is.

“It’s really difficult to quantify a woman’s worth but for me, it should be who she is in the community, society, and most importantly, to herself.” – Marsha Alba, Senior Events Manager

Women are heard, valued, and empowered.

Inspired by how the leaders of the company live and lead with purpose, we need to ensure that everything we do is meaningful and with purpose. “Being a woman of today is overcoming the old notions”, so we ask everyone to speak up. As mentioned recently by TeamAsia’s President & Founder, our thoughts are as good as others’ thoughts, and our ideas are great so we have to speak up about them. This is not only to encourage women but for everyone to support and empower one another.

“When women support women, great things happen”. – Monette Iturralde-Hamlin, President and Founder

The balance between spontaneity and proficiency from such a diverse team enabled me to thrive in TeamAsia. I can comfortably speak up about my ideas without the thought that they might be subpar to consider. Moreover, I’m confident that my ideas will be valued – and that’s because I belong to a team with brilliant minds who can constantly elevate ideas, and bring out the potential of others.
